FOCUS AREAS and ACTION STEPS


Regional and Subregional Funding
Objective: Advocate for East King County needs to be addressed through regional funding.

• Advocate during the 2009 Legislative Session with a coordinated message to ensure that our Legislative Agenda items are included in the State budget.
Timeline: throughout session; Human Services Advocacy Day in Olympia

• Impact decision-making on regional funding initiatives (i.e., Mental Illness and Drug Dependency Funds, Veterans and Human Services Levy, United Way funding, etc.) by participating in County meetings and inviting regional representatives to EHSF meetings.
Timeline: ongoing

• Research options for generating dedicated sub-regional funding (i.e., endowment fund or community foundation).
Timeline: by the end of 3rd Quarter

• Research infrastructure and system support for sustainable East King County human services (i.e., possible sub-regional governance, strategic plan).
Timeline: by the end of 3rd Quarter

Basic Needs In An Economic Crisis
Objective: Highlight the needs low income communities are facing during the economic recession, and strengthen services to meet basic needs in East King County.

• Define the Forum's role in regional efforts for emergency needs.
Timeline: immediately

• Create a publication to highlight recession's impact in East King County.
Timeline: June

• Convene a meeting with providers to coordinate emergency services.
Timeline: January

• Organize an educational forum on income disparity in East King County

Create New Partnerships
Objective: Leverage the Forum's ability to assure a stable network of health and human services in East King County via effective and mutually beneficial partnerships.

• Convene an informational meeting about the Mental Illness and Drug Dependency funds for providers and East/North King Co. school districts.
Timeline: January

• Invite the following groups to EHSF Work Group meetings throughout 2009 to learn more about them and explore the best ways to engage different stakeholders: Eastside school districts; Religious Leaders Task Force/Faith Communities; Service Groups such as Kiwanis, Rotary; Veteran's Administration; Chambers of Commerce; Foundations

• Follow up on Community Reinvestment Act efforts from 2008.
